A self-described ‘serial entrepreneur’, Roy Wachira recently opened The Foundry, a co-working space and in almost the same breath launched Seremala Design, an interior design company. Roy and his team designed the space and built the furniture, which was so impressive that they soon had requests to work on other offices. Seremala Design is already working on four office interiors.
The Foundry, which takes up the top two floors of the tallest building at Nelleon Place, Rhapta Road, Westlands, was designed to give “start-ups, small businesses and freelancers everything they need to stay focused on building their businesses”, including a beautiful space.
In particular, this bicycle wheel table caught my eye so I asked Roy about it. Roy found the wheels by the road, hanging from a tree. They were old and bent out of shape, so the owner gave them away for free as he didn’t see what purpose they could serve. It took Roy about 15 minutes to figure out how to connect the wheels and measure how much glass was needed. The glass was ordered and when it came in two weeks later, a ‘Chuma Fundi’ put it all together.
