Evlyn Kyegombe used to sing in a band. It wasn’t a full time gig, she only sang in her ‘free time’ but she was good, good enough to get paid. Evlyn now works in the building sector, and designs jewellery on the weekends, but the music hasn’t left her. The ‘Bar Series’, made up of necklaces, rings, bangles and earrings, was inspired by the ‘bars’ on sheet music.
When Evlyn first started dabbling in jewellery making, she worked with beads. A year in, having established Embody Accessories, she discovered metal casters. Evlyn has always liked ‘structured’ jewellery, but working with beads is limiting. The transition was easy because she already understood the casting process — in a previous job she sold the spare parts used in the casting process.
This discovery has defined the development of Evlyn’s brand. The casting method has allowed her to experiment with metals and create designs such as those in the ‘Bar Series’.
