Last year Chebet Mutai, the owner of WazaWazi, went to an art exhibition in Nairobi by the Ugandan artist — Ronnie Ogwang — and fell in love with his work. At that time she couldn’t afford a piece of his artwork but she contacted him on Facebook to share her admiration and they became friends.
A few months later, Ronnie needed a new bag. He had been using an ordinary messenger bag but he wanted something “more interesting and less mainstream,” Chebet says. Based on his requirements, Chebet spent 4-5 months developing this bag; what she calls “a messenger bag with a twist”.
Chebet designed the bag having never met Ronnie. But the design worked out perfectly and the artist gave Chebet a painting from his “Mother Series” in exchange for the bag.
