At first ‘Urban Nomad’ may seem like an oxymoron, but it could well refer to Nicola Hankey-Onyango herself; a woman who has called Ottawa, London and now Nairobi home.
The collection name conjures up a woman who is fearless and daring, living her dreams fully as she charts her own path.
Perhaps this is why the designs suit Nicola’s friend and neighbour, writer Maïmouna Jallow, so well. Fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, Maïmouna has worked as a radio producer in London; a correspondent in the island nation of São Tomé and Principe; and is now writing her first book, a collection of short stories for children.
This geometric, minimalist collection is made from highly polished brass and white horn from Uganda. The designs are also available with a black horn inlay.
