I love everything about this photograph. It just oozes confidence, power, sensuality and strength. The image is part of a personal project organised by photographer, videographer and blogger Lyra Aoko as a way to challenge herself; she felt she had been slacking on her personal photography and as a result was losing some of her drive.
I should point out that Lyra doesn’t just sit at home on the couch all day munching on potato crisps, she is the one-woman powerhouse behind the hugely successful blog—Cynosure. The need to continually push herself probably explains why she has achieved so much at only twenty three.
Lyra formulated the idea for the fashion photo shoot, created a mood board on Pinterest (gold, beautiful dark skin, chic designs), assembled an incredibly creative team and secured a location. The end product was such a success that all the photographs were picked up by AfroStyle Magazine.
The peplum top in this photograph was designed by Christine Njoki, the creative director of Ikojn (pronounced "icon"). Christine had envisioned the zip at the back, zipped all the way up. But during the photo shoot, stylist Georgina George of Ace Style Consultants turned the top around and opened the zip almost three quarters of the way down. “She showed me another way to wear it!” Njoki explained with a laugh.
